In the 10th lesson in our Texas History Course, we will look at the Spanish Frontera, and the role of the Church in New Spain. Roles of economy, castes, and the government of Spain will shape the life of Tejas. Finally, we will explore the strengths and weaknesses of Spanish Colonization how it will create the context for future discussions of Tejas.

Learning Objectives for Lesson Ten

  • Students should be able to imagine daily life on the Spanish frontera;
  • Students will learn about the role of the economy, castes, and the government to shaping life in far-off Tejas;
  • The role of the Church in New Spain will come into focus;
  • Haciendas and their role in New Spain will also be discussed;
  • The strengths, and weaknesses of the Spanish colonial era will create the context for future discussions of Spanish Tejas.
