The Comanches had a deep understanding of their country. Besides the rivers of Texas, they knew where there was reliable water in the long spaces between these valleys, and made use of easily recognizable high point to navigate their way into Mexico and along the Texas frontier. They also used the strategic locations as observation posts and signal stations when confronting their enemies.
