When the assault on the Alamo finally occurred, Mexican columns attacked from four directions. The heavy fire coming from the walls of the old mission forced three of the attacking forces to converge on the north wall, which they carried with their overwhelming numbers. The other column, shot to pieces near the chapel, slipped around to the southwest corner and successfully scaled the wall there.
Once inside, the Mexican made short work of the defending garrison. The entire fight was over in 45 minutes.
