This map reveals the steady increase in the number of reactivated posts on the Texas frontier after the Civil War. Many of the old forts, though, proved poorly located for the change in Indian policy following the Civil War and were abandoned. The new trend became to establish larger posts with various sub-posts and camps along patrol lines.
